Road accident: Five dead, 13 injured in Plateau

Five persons have died in a road accident, while 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred barely six days after another accident in the area, when a multiple-vehicle crash involving a fuel-laden tanker and five other vehicles near St Louis College, close to the Polo Field Club roundabout in Jos, claimed two lives.
The latest accident took place at the Zangzat Roundabout in Langtang at about 3 am on Sunday and involved a trailer conveying marketers from Shendam to Jos, the state capital.
The chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, confirmed the incident in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious Yakubu.
According to him, preliminary reports indicated that the accident involved a Plateau State–registered vehicle with registration number JJN 383 YZ and was caused by speeding and overloading.
Upon receiving the report, the chairman said he directed a team from the Local Government Council to visit the scene of the accident and the hospital to assess the situation, sympathise with the victims, and ascertain their immediate needs.
According to him, “The incident led to the tragic loss of five lives, while about 13 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
Tyem stated that the injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Langtang.
