Rivers: Navy destroys illegal crude oil storage site

The Nigerian Navy has destroyed an illegal crude oil storage site uncovered within the operational area of its Forward Operating Base, Bonny, in Rivers State, as part of ongoing operations against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta region. 

Four dug-out pits containing a cumulative 17,500 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude oil, according to the Director, Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, was discovered at the site. 

Folorunsho in a statement made available to Saturday Vanguard, said the development which took place under Operation Delta Sentinel, followed a directive by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to intensify efforts aimed at curbing maritime crimes and safeguarding the nation’s economic assets.

He explained that personnel of the Forward Operating Base, Bonny, uncovered the illegal facility during surveillance operations in the Opotumbi general area.
