Reps restate commitment to strengthening the naira

The House of Representatives has restated its commitment to strengthening the naira and safeguarding national revenue.
The Chairman, House Ad-hoc Committee on the implementation and oversight of the Naira-for-crude-oil policy, Rep. Boniface Emerengwa, said this at an investigative hearing with stakeholders in Abuja on Wednesday.
Emerengwa reaffirmed the Committee’s mandate to scrutinise the implementation of the policy and ensure accountability at all levels.
“We have a duty to ascertain how this policy has been executed, whether it aligns with its objectives, and where necessary, recommend corrective measures,” he said.
The Chairman said that the investigation is not targeted at any individual or institution, but a constitutional oversight exercise aimed at strengthening national economic systems.
Emerengwa, who sought full cooperation from all stakeholders, said that honesty and clarity would help them deliver a report that is factual, objective, and in Nigeria’s best interest.
He said that the Committee would conduct its work with firmness, fairness, and unwavering commitment to the truth.
According to him, we will not hesitate to expose lapses, highlight inefficiencies, or call out violations of due process.
Emerengwa assured the Nigerian people of their transparency and integrity and never to betray the trust reposed in them.
NAN reports that the Naira-for-Crude-Oil policy is a critical economic intervention intended to stabilise Nigeria’s currency and Safeguard national revenue.
