Raphinha issues apology after offensive gesture at Atlético fans

Raphinha has apologised following a heated post-match incident involving Atlético Madrid fans, admitting his actions did not reflect his values.

The Barcelona winger, who missed the match due to injury, was caught on camera gesturing toward Atlético supporters after his side’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League Tuesday night, repeatedly signalling “pa’ fuera” in what appeared to be a taunt, speculating that Atlético Madrid would be knocked out in the semis.

The moment, captured by DAZN cameras and shared online, quickly sparked backlash.

However, responding in the comment section of the post, Raphinha sought to explain his actions, attributing them to the intensity of the moment.

“It was an act committed in a moment of tension, in response to a fan who was disrespecting me,” he said.

The 29-year-old also expressed regret over the incident, adding, “I apologise for my gesture, which does not correspond to my values or my character.”

However, the Brazilian’s frustration was not limited to the exchange with fans. In his post-match remarks, he openly criticised the officiating, describing the encounter in strong terms.

“This match was a robbery,” he said, pointing to several contentious decisions during the game.

Raphinha further questioned the referee’s approach, claiming Atlético Madrid escaped punishment despite multiple fouls.
“Atletico committed I don’t know how many fouls, and the referee did not show a single yellow card,” he stated.

The winger also hinted at deeper concerns regarding officiating decisions involving Barcelona.

“I was really looking forward to understanding this fear among the referees that Barcelona would reach victory.

“It was hard, especially when we see that we have to make three times the effort to win the game,” he added.
