Plateau Publishers Association PPA Achieves Unity, Sets Stage for Fresh Elections

Plateau Publishers Association, PPA has after years of factional infighting, achieved a significant milestone, paving the way for fresh elections into its executive positions.

The unity efforts began with a pivotal invitation from Chief Amos Gizo, a respected member of the Association’s Board of Trustees, to the warring factions to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal.

This call was reinforced by Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, during a crucial meeting at the NUJ Secretariat, Jos. Dr. Bere emphasized the importance of a strong, united body, warning that disunity would lead to continued marginalization.

He urged the publishers to “organize yourselves, reconcile, and move forward as one formidable association,” highlighting that unity is essential for the association’s growth and influence.

In a remarkable display of commitment to the peace process, Chief Daman and Comrade Shabul Mazadu, chairmen of the PPA and IPA factions, respectively, announced their decision to step aside, allowing a neutral Electoral Committee, ELCOM, to oversee credible elections.

Prince Valentine Adese appointed Chairman of ELCOM, with a Secretary and Public Relations Officer to assist him in facilitating the election process. The PPA has resolved to hold elections within six weeks, ensuring the association can capitalize on opportunities under the Mutfwang-led government.

This unity move marks a significant turning point for Plateau publishers, opening doors for growth, influence, and government collaboration. As Chief Daman aptly noted, “If we fail to unite now, we will keep working for others to enjoy.” The PPA is poised to reclaim its position as a leading voice in the media landscape, with expected benefits including increased influence, improved government relations, and enhanced opportunities for growth and development.

With Gizo’s wisdom and Bere’s mediation, the Plateau publishing community now stands on the threshold of a new, united era, with a six-week countdown to leadership renewal.
