Police seal off ADC meeting venue in Cross River

By Emma Una

A team of mobile police men in Calabar on Tuesday sealed off the venue slated for the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, membership registration, mobilisation and revalidation committee.

Ahead of party primaries, ADC in the state set up a membership committee headed by Eko Alobo and was scheduled for inauguration Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Event Centre along Marian Road by 10:00 am.

However, as early as 7:00 am, a crack team of policemen cordoned off the inauguration venue, barring party members from gaining entry into the premises.

A source close to the security operatives on the ground indicated they were acting on orders to seal off the venue in response to a petition from some party members.

Efforts to resolve the standoff failed, even as some top ADC leaders, including the South South Zonal Vice Chairman, Dr Usani Uguru Usani, and Rt Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, held a meeting with the Commissioner of Police to address the confrontation.

The meeting venue was later shifted to the home of Usani Usani where large crowds are presently gathered.
