Police arrest fake soldier in Jos amid rising insecurity

Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested a man impersonating a soldier in the troubled Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area.

The suspect was promptly taken to the state police headquarters in Jos for parade by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, invited journalists to cover the parade.

The statement read: “This is to inform you that the Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fake soldier in Angwan Rukuba.

“Therefore, the Commissioner of Police will be parading the suspect on Wednesday evening…”

The arrest comes as security agencies intensify efforts to restore normalcy in Jos following a recent deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that claimed 28 lives.

It also follows the relaxation of a 48-hour curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government amid rising insecurity in the state capital.

In a related development, the University of Jos directed students to evacuate hostels due to the worsening security situation.

The police command had earlier assured residents that joint security agencies were working round the clock to maintain law and order in the affected areas.

The Commissioner of Police is expected to give further details about the suspect and his activities during the parade.
