Police arrest 27-year-old man over alleged defilement of 15-year-old domestic worker in Ondo

AKURE — Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested a 27-year-old man, Solomon Onaola, over the alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old domestic worker in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The case was initially reported at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station by the girl’s guardian and was later transferred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the state police command for further investigation.
The guardian reportedly told the police that the teenager, who worked as a domestic helper in the household, had on several occasions left home without permission.
A police source said the girl, during questioning, allegedly disclosed that Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where the alleged abuse occurred.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said police operatives commenced investigation following the report and subsequently arrested the suspect.
Abayomi said the victim had been placed under appropriate care while necessary procedures were being followed in handling the case.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Felix Ohagwu, had directed the Gender-Based Offences Unit to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the facts of the case.
The PPRO said the command remained committed to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation and violence.
He urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of abuse to the police.
Abayomi said the suspect remained in custody and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Police arrest suspected armed robber with firearm in Owo
Meanwhile, police operatives in Ondo State have arrested a 32-year-old man, Ogunmola Oluwasola, over alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition in Owo.
Oluwasola was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad during a stop-and-search operation along the Owo-Ute Road.
According to the police, one locally made pistol and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody while the recovered firearm and ammunition were secured as exhibits.
Abayomi said the suspect’s statement had been obtained as detectives continued investigation to determine the source of the firearm and whether he was linked to robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities in Owo and its environs.
He said the command would sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other proactive measures across the state, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone areas.
The PPRO warned individuals involved in the unlawful possession or trafficking of firearms that the police would continue to investigate and prosecute such cases.
He said the suspect remained in custody while investigation continued, assuring residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence, visibility patrols and community-based policing strategies to protect lives and property across the state.
