Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has convened a high-level strategic meeting with former governors and key stakeholders to address the rising security challenges and chart a path towards lasting peace in the state.
The meeting, held at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, brought together former governors Simon Bako Lalong, Jonah David Jang, and Joshua Chibi Dariye and former military administrator Rear Admiral Samuel Bitrus Atukum (retd), among other prominent leaders.
Gov Mufwang, on his verified Facebook page, wrote that the closed-door session extensively deliberated on issues affecting the well-being, welfare and overall development of Plateau people, with particular focus on the recent wave of violent attacks in rural communities.
Government House sources said the meeting critically reviewed the security situation in the state, with participants expressing concern over the persistent loss of lives and destruction of property.
The leaders, however, resolved to work collectively towards ending the violence by promoting sustainable peace, strengthening unity and encouraging harmonious coexistence among residents.
They also agreed on the need to pursue justice for victims and establish robust frameworks that would reflect the values of courage, discipline and patriotism associated with Plateau people.
Part of the resolutions reached includes rebuilding fractured relationships among communities and restoring trust as a foundation for lasting peace.
Governor Mutfwang described the meeting as a significant step towards addressing the security challenges confronting the state and repositioning it for growth and stability.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring Plateau’s identity as the “Home of Peace and Prosperity”, assuring that the outcome of the engagement would translate into concrete actions.
The meeting comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, with the government intensifying efforts in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders to restore normalcy.
