Plateau: Group faults ex-LP guber candidate over allegations against Gov. Mutfwang

A group under the banner of the ‘Vanguard For The Voice Of Reasoning’, has faulted allegations by former Plateau State Labour Party governorship candidate, Chief Yohanna Margif, where he accused Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of remaining silent as Fulani militias continue to attack communities in Bokkos local government area of the state.

Margif, who is the Waziri Mushere, had, in a statement, alleged that Mutfwang had abandoned the people in his community to their fate as Fulani herders go on the rampage, killing innocent people and sacking communities to annihilate them and taking over their lands.

But while responding to Margif’s statement, Chairman of the Vanguard, James Buba, accused him of neglecting his people for over a year, failing to visit or commiserate with them following repeated bloody assaults by armed Fulani militias.

In a statement on Monday, Buba said Margif’s allegations were false and baseless as the governor has never been silent over the violence in Bokkos and other parts of the state.

The Vanguard, however, urged the ex-LP candidate to desist from targeting Gov. Mutfwang, who has consistently demonstrated solidarity and support for all Plateau people, including Margif’s own community.

The group noted that Mutfwang had visited Mushere and other affected communities on June 22, 2025, to console victims, restore hope, and provide relief materials to cushion the impact of the violence, and wondered how Margif arrived at the conclusion that the governor was silent over the attacks.

Buba also condemned Margif’s comments which he described as unguided and self-serving, while accusing him of “living comfortably in Abuja while ignoring the pains and sufferings of his people.”

“It is shocking to hear Mr. Yohanna Margif, who has abandoned his people for several years, accuse Governor Mutfwang of being silent over the attacks,” Buba said.

“If there is any governor Plateau State has produced who has stood firmly with his people, it is Governor Mutfwang. Idle minds and shortsighted individuals like Margif should not be allowed to mislead the public with unfounded claims.

“Only recently, the Governor dispatched a high-powered delegation led by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, to Mushere to ensure the bridge project was completed without delay,” Buba added.

While expressing deep sympathy for the people of Mushere over the sustained violence by killer herdsmen, the group called on the community to remain resilient in defending themselves.

The group also challenged security agencies to rise to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property or give way for the people to defend their land.
