‘Paystack fired me unfairly,’ says co-founder Ezra Olubi

Paystack co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, says the company has terminated his employment over sexual misconduct allegations, despite what he describes as a flawed process that denied him a fair hearing.

Olubi disclosed this in a blog post published on Sunday, November 23, 2025, alleging that Paystack fired him on November 22 while the company’s “independent” investigation into the claims was still ongoing.

Recall Vanguard reported Olubi was suspended earlier in November after online accusations of abusive behaviour went viral, prompting widespread backlash and the resurfacing of explicit tweets he posted between 2009 and 2013.

Paystack subsequently announced that it had set up a review panel and would appoint an external investigator to probe the allegations.

According to him, he refrained from making public statements during the probe so as not to interfere with the process. He said the silence created a vacuum that allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations” to spread online.

His statement reads: “Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online. In response, the Board of Directors of Paystack placed me on suspension and initiated what was described as an “independent” investigation.

“Once that process began, I chose not to make any public statements. I did this to avoid interfering with the investigation and because I expected a fair, thorough and unbiased review of the allegations being discussed online. This created a vacuum that allowed assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”

Olubi stated that people who know him personally or professionally understand that the posts circulating online do not align with his real-life conduct. He also maintained that he had always conducted himself in a way that respects people’s dignity and safety.

“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always, to the best of my ability, conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety,” he said.

He alleged that his dismissal violated Paystack’s internal procedures, noting that he was fired without any meeting, hearing, or opportunity to defend himself, despite being a co-founder, technical lead, and long-serving board member familiar with the company’s internal systems.

Olubi added that his legal team is now reviewing the process leading to his termination and will take whatever steps they deem appropriate. He said he will not comment further for now.
