Oil and Gas communities group backs Tinubu for second term
..Vows to Mobilize 10 Million Votes
By Henry Umoru, Abuja
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, a coalition representing Nigeria’s oil- and gas-producing communities has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, urging him to contest to sustain ongoing reforms and policies under his administration.
Addressing journalists on Friday, the group, operating under the umbrella of Communities of Oil and Gas in Nigeria (COGIN), said it would mobilize its members across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to support Tinubu if he seeks re-election.
COGIN described itself as an advocacy platform for communities in oil- and gas-producing areas, focusing on development and economic opportunities in those regions. The group praised the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that its policies have already begun to deliver tangible improvements for host communities.
Director-General Benjamin Style Tamaranebi, who signed the statement, said the organization would continue engaging stakeholders and advocating for policies aimed at improving the welfare of oil- and gas-producing communities. He added that the group sees no need to change a winning team and pledged to mobilize 10 million votes for Tinubu’s re-election.
The statement read in part: “It is about three impactful years of Mr. President’s bold vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has sparked real progress across the six geopolitical zones, proving doubters wrong and inspiring hope nationwide. His strategic policies have set COGIN on the pathway of sustainable prosperity.”
COGIN emphasized that continuity of leadership is essential to consolidate gains and sustain development initiatives, urging Tinubu to contest in 2027 to further the reforms already initiated.
“We, the entire membership of COGIN, are begging you as our President: please contest in the 2027 presidential election to continue with the good policies and reforms you have already embarked on, as four years is not enough to fully consolidate the laudable projects and policies initiated so far,” the group said.
