Ogun: Police nab 8 suspected truck hijackers, recover pistol, bags of cements

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested eight suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for violent attacks and the hijacking of trailer trucks along the Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko axis of the state.

The suspects, Mogaji Sodiq a.k.a. “Ogbonṣ”, Adebowale Lekan, Ajah Peter, Ganiyu Razaq, Odeleye Ayoola, Egboja Amos, Bello Akeem, and Olaifa Sunday, were apprehended by officers of the Anti-Robbery Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, at different locations across the state.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY POST on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said it followed a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation.

Babaseyi disclosed that a hijacked trailer truck, 900 bags of cement, and a locally made single-barrel pistol were recovered.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, directed operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, to deploy intelligence assets, intensify surveillance, and discreetly track and dismantle the criminal network through targeted, intelligence-led operations.

“Through sustained intelligence gathering, covert surveillance, and crime pattern analysis, detectives successfully identified and penetrated the syndicate.”

Babaseyi explained that the suspects were intercepted after conveying the trailer truck, with most of the stolen cement having been taken to a warehouse, which was tracked and recovered first by operatives.

He noted that investigations are ongoing, and intelligence is currently being exploited to track, locate, and apprehend other fleeing members.

Babaseyi added that the suspects will be charged to court accordingly upon the conclusion of investigations.

The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the state, urging members of the public to report any suspicious activities or security concerns through the command’s emergency lines.
