Ogun 2027: Adeola visits Obasanjo, Amosun, seeks support
By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, on Friday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta to seek their blessings, guidance and support ahead of the poll.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, said he would incorporate the advice and recommendations offered by Obasanjo into his administration’s plans if elected governor.
The APC candidate spoke with journalists after separate meetings with the two elder statesmen at their Abeokuta residences.
Speaking after his meeting with Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Adeola described the visit as fruitful, saying the former President shared his expectations for the development of Ogun State and offered guidance on governance.
“I came to pay homage to our father, a former President and respected national leader. We received a warm reception and sought his blessings, guidance and support, all of which he graciously gave us.
“He spoke passionately about the future of Ogun State, his expectations and what he believes we must do to keep the state on the right track.
“We have listened carefully, taken his advice to heart and will incorporate it into our plans and programmes as we move toward 2027. I sincerely thank him for the warm reception he extended to me and my deputy,” Adeola said.
In his remarks, Obasanjo urged the APC governorship candidate to remain focused on his ambition while seeking divine direction.
“My prayer is that your desires and ambitions will align with God’s purpose for your life,” the former President said.
He recalled how his youthful ambition to study geology and work in the oil and gas sector eventually gave way to a military career.
“I wanted to study geology and become a great geologist, but that was not God’s plan for me. God’s purpose was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way.
“I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled.
“Be focused on what you want to achieve. Pursue your goal with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people,” Obasanjo added.
Adeola also visited former Governor Amosun, where he sought his support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the senator described Amosun as his political leader and said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen consultations within the APC.
“I came to seek my leader’s understanding and support, which he has graciously given.
“I will return for another scheduled visit when he will be ready to address the press. Today’s meeting has been excellent. Everyone is happy, the turnout was impressive and we are speaking with one voice.
“It is victory for our party in 2027,” he said.
Responding, Amosun stressed the need for unity within the APC, urging members to work together rather than create divisions.
“What the people want is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups,” he said.
The former governor thanked party members and supporters who accompanied Adeola on the visit and urged them to remain united.
“It is a great joy that you have all come. We appreciate your presence and ask for your continued support and cooperation.
“This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward.
“When the time comes, we will put everything together, review it carefully and proceed accordingly,” Amosun said.
The visits are part of Adeola’s ongoing consultations with key political leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
