Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to support healthcare services at Ehime General Hospital, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Obi made the donation during a visit to the hospital, where he was received by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. David Onuoha, alongside members of the clergy and the hospital management.
The Archbishop commended Obi for his continued support for critical sectors, particularly health and education, describing his interventions as impactful and selfless.

Ehime General Hospital, which has been handed over to the Catholic Diocese for management, is currently undergoing renovation.

Plans are also underway to establish a nursing school within the hospital complex to enhance healthcare training and service delivery in the area.

The Diocese is expected to oversee the facility as part of efforts to improve its management and expand access to quality healthcare services for residents.

Speaking during the visit, Obi stressed the importance of sustained investment in healthcare and education, describing both sectors as essential pillars of national development.

According to him, a healthy and educated population remains the foundation for economic growth and social progress.

He also called on governments at all levels to provide greater support for healthcare initiatives, noting that faith-based institutions have continued to play a significant role in complementing government efforts in the provision of essential services.

Obi said strengthening collaboration among government, private individuals and religious organisations would help address challenges in the health sector and improve access to quality medical care.

The former Anambra State governor noted that investments in healthcare infrastructure and personnel development were necessary to achieve sustainable improvements in service delivery.

The visit underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Imo State through partnerships involving private individuals, religious institutions and the public sector.

It also highlighted plans to expand healthcare training opportunities through the proposed nursing school, which stakeholders believe will contribute to the development of skilled healthcare professionals and improved medical services in the region.

Obi’s donation is expected to support the ongoing renovation of the hospital and enhance its capacity to meet the healthcare needs of the surrounding communities.
