Prominent statesman, Jim Nwobodo, has been slated to chair the 15th Chief Emeka Anyaoku Distinguished Lecture Series on Good Governance, scheduled to hold in Owerri on April 9, 2026.

Organisers said the former governor of old Anambra State, ex-minister and senator was selected based on his track record and contributions to governance.

The Anyaoku Lecture Series is a prominent Nigerian public policy forum focused on governance, leadership and national development, often described as an “Ideas Arena.”

The annual intellectual and policy event is held in honour of Emeka Anyaoku, a respected elder statesman and former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Its core objective is to stimulate debate on good governance in Nigeria by bringing together politicians, academics, diplomats and civil society actors. Themes of the lecture typically revolve around democracy and constitutional reforms, leadership and accountability, national unity and restructuring, as well as economic and institutional development.

Usually organised by the Youth Affairs International Foundation and supported by state governments and institutions, the platform is designed to influence governance and policy direction in the country.

Past editions, held in cities such as Port Harcourt and Enugu, have attracted top Nigerian figures, including former heads of state and governors. Discussions at the forum often highlight Nigeria’s diversity and the need for improved federal balance.

In a formal letter to Nwobodo, the coordinator of the lecture series, Amb. Johnson Ogbonna, expressed delight at his acceptance to serve as Chairman of the Occasion.

“Sir, your contributions to good governance represent the needs of our generation, and the entire executive of the Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture on Good Governance, the board of Youth Affairs International Foundation, and our honouree have collectively agreed that you chair this year’s annual lecture,” Ogbonna stated.
