Niger CP deploys operational assets for Munya state constituency bye-election

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman has ordered for massive deployment of Police personnel and operational assets for security coverage of the Munya state constituency Bye-Election..

The bye election is scheduled to be held on Saturday 16th August, 2025

The CP made this disclosure during the inspection of sensitive materials for the election in Minna alongside the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, IPAC and other security agencies today 14th August, 2025.

He reassured members of the public of adequate security for the bye-election.

According to him, ” I have directed all tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD-CBRN), Crack Squad, Tactical Support Team and other tactical bodies to dominate the public space in the area to ensure Police visibility and confidence-building patrol before, during and after the election.”

He assured that Police personnel will be adequately deployed to all the 119 polling units and 11 wards of the LG where the election will take place.

Elleman explained that in addition to this, personnel of other security agencies under the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, will also be placed along with Police personnel at every polling units and collation centers.

“The tactical teams shall provide escorts and security for both sensitive and non-sensitive materials including electoral officers to collation centers and polling units while other personnel shall ensure a conducive environment within the inner circle at the polling units for voters to exercise their rights peacefully, ” he stated.

The CP further reiterated the Command’s preparedness to provide adequate security for a peaceful and credible election.

However, he called on all political parties to play by the rules and warned that anyone who has nothing to do with the election process in the area should stay away from Munya, adding,” enforcement of vehicular movement restriction shall commence from 6am-6pm on election day in Munya LGA”.

Elleman added that only electoral officers, election observers and essential workers including emergency personnel and journalists are permitted to move within this period, while quasi security outfits are not allowed to cover the election.
