Former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Dr Mustapha Lecky, says the new Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, will inherit the burden of reputational deficit and damage from the 2023 elections.
Dr Lecky made this statement on Thursday while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
His comment is coming barely 12 hours after the National Council of State approved the nomination of Amupitan from the North-Central as the new Chairman of INEC.
“INEC suffered a great deal of reputational deficit and damage from the last general elections because of the way the collation and declaration were done.
“So, the newly appointed INEC chair, Amupitan, would inherit the burden of reputational deficit and damage from the 2023 elections,” he said.
