Nasarawa: Police rescue three-day old abducted baby, arrest suspect

The Nasarawa State Police command said it has successfully rescued a three-day-old abducted baby and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

In a press statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, said 19-year-old resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, named Aisha Bada, reported at the police station that unknown persons had abducted her newborn baby boy.

The release said the incident was reported on March 29, 2026, at about 5:45 am in Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to the victim, her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, had travelled to Lagos for business about five months earlier.

“According to her, on 28th March 2026 at about 1150 hours, while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her uncompleted building located at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, Orange Market, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her with violence, and abducted the baby to an unknown destination,” the report added.

Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed detectives of Mararaba ‘A’ Division to immediately visit the scene and ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives on 3rd April 2026 at about 0400 hours arrested two suspects: Furera Abdulrahman, 35 years, of Rugan Juli; and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39 years, of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market.”

The abducted baby boy was, however, found in their possession and successfully rescued, with the suspects confessing to the crime during interrogation.

and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large to carry out the abduction, as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

“The rescued baby was immediately taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where he was examined by a medical doctor, certified to be in good health, and subsequently discharged. The child has since been reunited with his parents,” the statement further reveals.

The statement confirmed that the case is currently under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Lafia, for further discreet investigation upon completion of preliminary enquiries.

The Nasarawa State Police Command, however, reassures members of the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urges citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
