My phone was blowing up – Mikel Obi reacts to Arsenal EPL win

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has admitted that he woke up to a flood of messages from Arsenal F.C. fans after the Gunners clinched the Premier League title.

Mikel, a well-known Chelsea supporter, said he was initially reluctant to congratulate one of his club’s fiercest rivals.

“I woke up to my phone blowing up, the messages, unbelievable, from Arsenal fans. Why will I congratulate Arsenal for winning the Premier League, I, a Chelsea fan, no way would we congratulate Arsenal for winning the Premier League,” Mikel said.

Despite his loyalties, Mikel said Arsenal deserved credit for their achievement and insisted that sportsmanship should always come first.

“But I have to say it though: they won the Premier League, they deserve it, fair play. We should not be bitter losers when it comes to sports. If someone has beaten you, you shake hands, and you move on.”

The former Super Eagles captain added that the manner in which Arsenal secured the title was irrelevant.

“For me, that’s the case. It does not matter how they won it, does not matter whether they played well, whether they crawled to the final line, whichever way, they did it. Shake hands and move on.”

Mikel spent more than a decade at Chelsea, winning multiple major honours, including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
