MNJTF repels Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in Lake Chad, kills six terrorists

Troops of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Sector 2 Republic of Chad, stationed at the Fitine Island community in the Bol Region within the Lake Province have thwarted an attack staged by Boko Haram targeted at the troops’ location deployed to protect the local fishing community in the area, neutralising 6 terrorists in a gunfight.
Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi, Acting Chief of Media and Public Information, in a statement said, “The insurgents under the cover of night filtered into the community, targeting to take out the military deployment.
“However, the vigilant and vibrant MNJTF troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and withdraw with multiple casualties into the Lake Chad waterways.
“Following exploitation, troops recovered bodies of 6 neutralised terrorists, 6 Automatic Kalashnikova model 47 (AK 47) rifles, 6 fully loaded magazines, one (1) Pulemyot Kalashnikova Tankovyy (PKT) General Purpose Machine Gun, and different calibres of ammunition, amongst other items.
“Two injured soldiers during the encounter were airlifted for medical attention.
“The Force Commander MNJTF, Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, who visited the scene, commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and dexterity.
“He commended the troops for standing tough and courageous, defeating the terrorists despite the poor visibility under which the terrorists attacked.
The Force Commander further stated that with ongoing clearance operations across the MNJTF area of responsibility, the terrorists were feeling the heat, as exemplified across multiple locations where recent encounters were hard on the terrorists.
He referenced the recent success the MNJTF troops recorded in Darak and Bargaram, which is under Sector 1 MNJTF Cameroon, where several scores of terrorists were also neutralized including foreign mercenaries.neutralised,
Thus, he called on troops to yield no quarter in encounters with terrorists and pledged to support locations with logistics, combat enablers and quick replenishment.
Speaking with members of the community, the Force Commander called on the community to be vigilant and point out intruders amongst them for onwards military action to enhance their safety.
He urged them to complement the troops’ sacrifice and efforts by providing useful, timely information to the troops.
The Force Commander equally used the opportunity to tour a medical outpost and pledged support with drugs and other consumables to enhance their operations.
