A middle-aged man identified as Kehinde has been killed while several others sustained injuries following a violent clash among youths in the Asalu community of Lalupon in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred in the Lagelu Local Government Area, where the deceased reportedly sustained fatal injuries from dangerous weapons during the outbreak of violence.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said a suspect, Giwa Sodiq, had been arrested in connection with the killing.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that community leaders alerted the Iyana-Offa Police Division after security guards reported a confrontation among youths in the early hours of the day.

“The injured were immediately taken to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa. Tragically, one of the victims, Kehinde, also known locally as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ later died from his injuries,” Olayinka said.

He added that police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital, where evidence was documented and the suspect taken into custody.

The police spokesman further disclosed that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of Adeoyo State Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, commended officers for their swift response and urged residents to remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious or criminal activities.

He also called on members of the public with credible information about the fleeing suspects to assist law enforcement authorities.

The police command emphasised the need for continued cooperation between residents and security agencies to ensure safety and maintain peace within communities.
