Makinde urges NFF to host Super Eagles matches in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to consider staging the Super Eagles’ international fixtures in Ibadan, saying the move would accelerate his administration’s drive to develop the state’s sports economy.
Makinde made the appeal on Saturday while declaring open the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the NFF, held in Ibadan.
He emphasized that football remains a powerful unifying force in Nigeria and assured that Oyo State is adequately prepared to host major sporting events. According to him, the facilities in Ibadan are of the standard required for high-profile games.
“Oyo State, particularly Ibadan, is ready to host top-tier events, including Super Eagles matches. We have the facilities, and I pledge full government support to make it successful,” Makinde said.
The governor also commended the leadership of the NFF and the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, for ongoing reforms, especially in improving officiating standards and enhancing the overall organization of the domestic league.
