Lagos Govt assures motorists over Lekki-Ajah road rehabilitation

…Activates Night-Shift Strategy

The Lagos State Government has reassured motorists and residents that adequate measures are in place to ensure smooth traffic flow during the planned rehabilitation of the Lekki-Ajah corridor, scheduled to last eight months.

The roadworks, initially announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, are set to commence on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and conclude on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The announcement had previously sparked public concern over potential traffic disruptions.

In a statement on Thursday, Osiyemi addressed the worries of residents and commuters, emphasizing that the project will be carried out in carefully planned phases to minimize impact. “Only specific sections of the corridor will undergo repairs at any given time, and these sections have been deliberately chosen to ensure minimal impact on the main carriageway,” he said.

To ease movement, alternative routes such as the Coastal Road and adjoining service lanes will be strengthened to facilitate smoother diversions. Additionally, the government has activated a night-shift strategy for major aspects of the work so that the bulk of construction occurs during low-traffic hours.

Osiyemi also highlighted that comprehensive peak-period traffic management plans will be implemented. “LASTMA personnel will be deployed along the entire stretch to ensure continuous movement, prevent gridlock, and respond swiftly to any traffic pressure during the rehabilitation period,” he added.

“The goal of this rehabilitation project is to improve the Lekki-Ajah corridor, not to add discomfort to residents. We appeal for patience and cooperation as we work to deliver lasting solutions that make commuting safer, faster, and more convenient for all,” Osiyemi stated.

He affirmed the State Government’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure and promised ongoing engagement with the public as the project progresses.
