Kwankwasiyya urges NDC to seek legal redress over Gwarzo’s omission from INEC list

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to seek legal redress over the omission of its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from the list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The movement also called on the party to submit the necessary documents to the commission and explore available legal options to correct the omission within the time allowed by law.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Dr Habibu Saleh Mohammed, the movement urged its members and supporters to remain calm while the matter was addressed through the appropriate channels.

The movement said information available to it indicated that Gwarzo had registered with the NDC within the stipulated period.

It added that it was not aware of any court case or judicial order cited as the reason for the omission and urged INEC to explain the circumstances surrounding the development.

The statement drew attention to Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which it said provides a 14-day window for a political party to notify INEC in writing, accompanied by an affidavit, when the name of its nominated candidate is missing from the published list.

The movement urged the NDC leadership and the candidate’s lawyers to examine the provision and determine how it could be used to seek a correction.

“We urge the NDC to ensure that all necessary documents, including evidence of timely party registration, candidate nomination, submission of particulars and relevant acknowledgements, are assembled and presented to INEC alongside any required affidavit,” the statement said.

It also advised the party’s legal team to confirm the applicable deadline and take the necessary steps to protect the candidate’s rights.

The movement said it expected INEC to address the issue transparently if the records confirmed that the candidate had complied with the requirements and that the omission was administrative.

However, it said it would not prejudge INEC’s official position or the outcome of any legal proceedings.

“Our confidence rests on the importance of due process, the presentation of verifiable evidence and the lawful remedies available to the party,” the statement added.

The movement further urged its supporters to avoid confrontation and the spread of unverified information, assuring them that it would continue to monitor developments and share confirmed updates.

It called on INEC to explain the omission without unnecessary delay and urged the NDC to pursue the available administrative and legal options within the prescribed period.
