Kebbi: Kalu condemns school attack, urges swift rescue of abducted girls

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has condemned the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where the vice-principal was killed and 25 students were abducted by suspected bandits.

Kalu also condemned the killing of Brigadier-General M. Uba, who was reported to have died in an ambush by suspected terrorists in Borno State.

In a statement, the Deputy Speaker described the incidents as heartbreaking and unacceptable. He said the abduction of the schoolgirls was not only a crime against innocent children but also a direct attack on their right to education, safety, and dignity.

He noted that the perpetrators had inflicted severe trauma on families and attempted to instill fear in the community by disrupting the education of the children.

Kalu called on security agencies to act swiftly to secure the immediate and safe rescue of all abducted students and to ensure that those responsible for both attacks are brought to justice.

He also urged a swift investigation into the killing of Brigadier-General Uba to ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

Sympathising with the families of the victims, Kalu prayed for the safe return of the abducted girls.

“Our thoughts remain with the families. We call on security agencies to move with urgency, precision, and unwavering commitment to secure the immediate and safe release of all abducted girls. The protection of children remains an absolute priority, and every resource available should be deployed to ensure no effort is spared in locating and rescuing them,” he said.
