Kano Assembly passes Economic Planning and Development Council Bill into law

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2026 into law.

A statement signed by the Assembly’s Information Officer, Tasi’u Jibo Dawanau, said the bill was passed during Monday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

The Assembly said the law is aimed at strengthening economic planning, coordination and development across the state.

According to the statement, the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Dala Constituency, Lawan Husaini, said the council would formulate programmes for the economic development of Kano State and coordinate economic development activities between the state and its 44 local government areas.

Husaini said the council would be chaired by the state governor and comprise five commissioners, the chairmen of the 44 local government councils, and five eminent personalities with expertise and experience in education and economic affairs.

He said the law was designed to address youth unemployment, improve revenue generation and revitalise manufacturing activities as part of efforts to promote the socio-economic development of the state.
