IPOB Member in Hiding: ‘They Killed My Father and Came Looking for Me’

A peaceful IPOB demonstration in Onitsha, Anambra State, turned deadly on February 18th, 2025, after Nigerian security forces allegedly opened fire on protesters.
Faith Eze Alozie, an IPOB member who participated in the protest, says the violence was sudden and brutal.
“We were demonstrating peacefully when the armed forces attacked us without warning. Some protesters were injured, and others were killed. I barely escaped,” he recalled.Just two days later, on February 20th, 2025, unknown armed men believed to be linked to security forces stormed his family home searching for him.
When his sibling said she didn’t know his whereabouts, the men became violent, physically assaulting his sister and fatally shoot his father.“They shot my father in front of my sister, and they searched the entire house. Myself and my sister reported the incident to the police, but no arrests have been made,” Faith Eze Alozie said.
He remains in hiding, fearing for his life, and says he has no confidence in the ability of the Nigerian authorities to protect him or ensure justice.
Human rights groups continue to raise alarm over ongoing attacks and intimidation targeting IPOB members and their families across southeastern Nigeria.
