IPAC suspends election in Osun, members kick

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has postponed the election to replace its leadership in the state indefinitely.

A statement issued by the National Organising Secretary of IPAC, Kalu Chinyere, after the electoral committee failed to show up for the exercise scheduled to be held at the Osun INEC head office on Saturday, stated that a new date for the election will be communicated to stakeholders soon.

It reads, “This is to formally inform all stakeholders that the Osun State IPAC Election previously scheduled to hold on 14th of March has been postponed.

“The new date for the election will be communicated soon.

“We regret any inconvenience this development may cause and also appreciate your understanding and continued cooperation.”

Meanwhile, all the 19 political parties’ chairmen in the state were at the venue as early as 11am waiting for the electoral committee but were told that arrangements were ongoing somewhere outside the venue.

After the postponement, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Chairman in the state, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, who is vying for IPAC Chairman described the situation as unfortunate considering that only 19 persons were supposed to vote but the exercise had to be postponed.

“It doesn’t matter when and where the exercise will take place, we are very ready for it. The people should know that for someone like me to challenge the incumbent IPAC Chairman who is also the ruling party chairman, the people believe he does not deserve another term and we will see the issue through,” he said.

Also, the APC representative, Mr Waheed Adediran, described the situation as messy and embarrassing, saying “an election that may not exceed 30 minutes was postponed for no cogent reasons. IPAC should investigate the issue and do the needful. But the situation is embarrassing”.
