INEC opens mega voter registration centre in Plateau to ease PVC access

JOS — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened a mega Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centre in Jos, the Plateau State capital, to address challenges such as distance, overcrowding, insecurity, and difficult terrain experienced during the first phase of the exercise.
The centre, located at Secretariat Junction under the bridge in Jos, commenced operations on Wednesday and will run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Monday, March 30, 2026.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Plateau State, Abubakar Sadiq, who monitored the exercise, said the initiative is part of efforts to improve voter registration in one of six states selected across the country’s geopolitical zones.
“The Commission reviewed reports from state offices and stakeholders on challenges encountered in the first phase, including long distances to registration centres and local government offices, large crowds, insecurity, and difficult terrain,” Sadiq said.
To address these concerns, he explained that INEC approved the rotation of voter registration across the 207 registration areas in the state’s 17 Local Government Areas. The second phase of the exercise, which began on February 2, 2026, will run for 50 days and end on April 10, 2026, with the final week taking place at local government offices.
He added that the nationwide CVR phase two, which commenced on January 5, 2026, is expected to conclude on April 17, 2026.
Sadiq disclosed that about 20 registration machines have been deployed to the Jos mega centre to enhance efficiency.
He urged eligible citizens, particularly those unable to register during working days, to take advantage of the exercise, including the weekend.
“Our correspondent observed that the mega centre is expected to ease earlier bottlenecks and improve access to Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for residents,” he added.
