IGP replaces Placid, appoints CSP Iniedu as new police spokesman

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

Iniedu takes over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, who has been redeployed to the Lagos State Police Command.

The change comes barely three months after Placid’s appointment as Force PRO on March 8, 2026, following the exit of former spokesperson, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin.

A source said the latest redeployment was part of ongoing efforts by the Inspector-General of Police to reposition the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen its communication strategy.

In a statement announcing the development, the outgoing Force PRO, DCP Placid, confirmed the appointment of CSP Iniedu, noting that the new spokesperson brings extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence coordination, and administrative leadership.

Before his appointment, CSP Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated public complaints management and led initiatives aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and public trust in the police.

He also previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, and held several operational and administrative roles across the country.

His past postings include Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State; Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State; Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat; Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa; and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised nationwide security information coordination and dissemination.

CSP Iniedu, an indigene of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication, and human rights-based policing.

The Inspector-General expressed confidence that the new Force PRO would strengthen the Force’s public relations architecture and enhance engagement with citizens, noting that the appointment aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving transparency and operational communication within the Nigeria Police Force.
