Hisbah releases two women arrested over alleged indecent dressing in Kebbi

Kebbi State Hisbah Board has released two women who were detained for alleged indecent dressing in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi after counselling them on modesty and community standards.

The Director of the Board, Surajo Usman, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.

Usman said the board received complaints on Friday, May 8, from residents of Badariya over women allegedly dressing inappropriately while staying in a house in the area.

According to him, residents also reported that the women sometimes appeared outside the house in such attire, raising concern within the community.

He said Hisbah officers were deployed to investigate the complaint and verify the allegations, leading to the arrest of two women suspected to be involved.

During interrogation, the women reportedly admitted to the incident but said they had no malicious intent.

They explained that the extreme heat influenced their choice of clothing for comfort and ventilation.

Usman added that the women expressed remorse and pledged not to repeat the behaviour.

He said they were counselled on the importance of modesty, morality, and respect for religious and community values, including maintaining decent dressing.

The women were subsequently released and advised to uphold acceptable conduct going forward.

Usman also urged members of the public to promote good moral behaviour and cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace and discipline within the community.
