Gov Otu rewards seven outstanding corps members with automatic employment

…Says Cross River’s future is secure with young achievers

CALABAR — Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has offered automatic employment to seven outstanding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from the state in recognition of their exceptional performance during the 2025 service year.

The beneficiaries were among corps members recently honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the Presidential Honours Award at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Receiving the awardees at his residence in Calabar over the weekend, Governor Otu described their achievements as a reflection of the “true Cross River spirit” of excellence, diligence and selfless service.

He urged young people in the state to remain committed to hard work, discipline and community service, noting that such values enhance the state’s reputation and contribute to national development.

“I feel elated and proud of your distinguished service to humanity and the communities where you served, which earned you the prestigious Presidential Honours Award conferred by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the governor said.

He commended the corps members for distinguishing themselves throughout their service year and for serving as worthy ambassadors of Cross River State.

“This goes a long way to show the true Cross River spirit, exemplified through excellence, diligence and commitment. Thank you for making our state proud,” he added.

Governor Otu assured the awardees of his administration’s continued support, expressing confidence in the future of the state.

“With young people like you, I believe the future of our state is guaranteed. My administration will continue to stand by you and support you in any endeavour you choose to pursue,” he said.

The governor also announced that beneficiaries who choose not to join the state civil service would receive support through skills acquisition programmes, vocational training or take-off grants to establish businesses of their choice.

The seven beneficiaries are Christopher Utsu (University of Cross River State), Favour Asuquo (University of Cross River State), Ndem Ndem (University of Calabar), Freedom Udama (University of Cross River State), Miracle Bisong (Federal Polytechnic, Nekede), Agom Johnson (University of Cross River State), and Clement Ekunke (University of Cross River State).

The governor expressed hope that the gesture would encourage more young people from the state to strive for excellence during their national service and contribute meaningfully to society.
