Gov. Aliyu to renovate district heads’ palaces in Sokoto

SOKOTO — Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has announced plans to renovate district heads’ palaces across the state as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and enhance grassroots governance.

The governor made the disclosure while receiving the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, during the Sallah homage at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge in Sokoto.

Governor Aliyu explained that the initiative is aimed at providing befitting accommodations for district heads, who serve as the closest traditional authorities to rural communities and play a critical role in maintaining peace, order, and effective local administration.

“We are not unaware of the dilapidated condition of many district heads’ palaces in the state. Very soon, we will commence their renovation, beginning with the palace of the District Head of Wurno,” he said.

He emphasised that strengthening traditional institutions is key to improving governance at the grassroots level, noting that district heads serve as vital intermediaries between the government and local communities.

Governor Aliyu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Sultanate Council of Sokoto in addressing pressing challenges affecting rural communities, particularly insecurity. He reaffirmed his resolve to sustain ongoing infrastructural development and urban renewal initiatives across the state.

The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to maintain an open-door policy, encouraging constructive suggestions to contribute to the state’s progress, while appreciating the people of Sokoto State for their continued support.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, commended Governor Aliyu for implementing people-oriented projects across the state and pledged the Sultanate Council’s full support for developmental programmes, including infrastructure expansion, feeding initiatives, and empowerment schemes.

“We are very proud of our governor, and we are 100 percent in support of what he is doing for the state,” the Sultan said. He also cautioned against misinformation on social media and urged citizens to be guided by truth and the fear of God in their public commentary.

The Sultan further revealed that the Sultanate Council would soon convene a meeting with district heads to explore ways of complementing the government’s efforts in tackling security challenges across the state, calling on all stakeholders to support the vision of a safer and more prosperous Sokoto State.
