Gen. Sura Mourns Mama Lydia Yilwatda, Describes Her as "An Epistle of Devotion"

Brigadier General John Sunday Sura has described late Mama Lydia Yilwatda's pilgrim's journey as "an epistle of utmost devotion to kingdom service and humanity."

In a widely spreaded condolence message to the Yilwatda, Sura noted the deceased life was "a testament that will be referenced for time immemorial."

 General Sura prayed for Professor Nentawe Yilwatda's comfort, saying "Prof. be comforted in the Lord, and tie Mama's principles and counsel to your neck for they will be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path."

Mama Lydia Yilwatda is the mother of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She was a devoted Christian, and a respected clergy's wife in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).

Mama Lydia is said to be known for her tireless efforts alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshwe Yilwatda, in boosting the church in various states, including Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau.

Her legacy is marked by compassion, wisdom, tolerance, and kindness, values she instilled in her children, particularly Professor Yilwatda. 

Mama Lydia passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving behind a remarkable legacy and a profound impact on her family, church, and community.
