…Permanent staff remain on state payroll

AKURE — The management of the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), Akure, has clarified the salary arrangement for its workforce following the hospital’s transition from a state-owned facility to a federal teaching hospital.
The hospital said there are currently two categories of employees, with the Ondo State Government and the Federal Government responsible for paying different groups of staff in line with the transition agreement.
In a statement issued in Akure, the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Mr. Tope Fayehun, explained that permanent staff inherited from the former state-owned hospital remain on the payroll of the Ondo State Government.
He added that the Federal Government has assumed responsibility for the salaries of non-regular staff recruited to sustain the hospital’s operations since its conversion to a federal teaching hospital.
Fayehun said recent comments attributed to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, were misconstrued and were never intended to suggest that the Federal Government had taken over the payment of salaries for all categories of workers.
“The Federal Government’s intervention has specifically covered the remuneration of non-regular personnel recruited to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services during the transition period, while the Ondo State Government has continued to fulfil its obligation to permanent employees,” he said.
According to him, the arrangement is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government during the transfer of the hospital.
He noted that both governments have continued to discharge their respective responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of the institution pending the full implementation of the transition process.
Fayehun reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to transparency and quality healthcare delivery, urging members of the public and stakeholders to disregard misinformation capable of creating unnecessary tension.
He also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government for their continued support and appealed for sustained collaboration as FUTATH consolidates its status as a federal tertiary healthcare institution.
