Full list: Chelsea appointed 10 coaches in last 10 seasons
In modern football, few clubs have experienced as much coaches turnover as Chelsea FC, where the dugout has become a revolving door over the past decade.
A flashback at the club’s recent history reveals a staggering 10 managers across 10 seasons: an era defined as much by silverware as by instability.
The cycle began with Dutch tactician Guus Hiddink, who stepped in to steady the ship during a turbulent spell in the 2015/16 season. He was followed by Antonio Conte, whose immediate impact in 2016/17 and 2017/18 delivered a Premier League title and reasserted Chelsea’s dominance.
Italian coach Maurizio Sarri came next in the 2018/19 season, implementing a possession-based style and winning the UEFA Europa League before departing. Club legend Frank Lampard was then appointed, overseeing 2019/20 and part of 2020/21, ushering in a youth-driven rebuild, though inconsistency plagued his tenure.
The arrival of Thomas Tuchel in 2020/21 (mid-season) through 2022/23 (early) brought instant European success, as he guided the club to UEFA Champions League glory. However, his exit signaled yet another reset, with Graham Potter taking charge during the 2022/23 season, followed by a brief return for Lampard in an interim role later that same campaign.
The managerial baton then passed to Mauricio Pochettino in the 2023/24 season, who sought to build a long-term project, before Enzo Maresca took over for 2024/25 as part of a new strategic direction.
Most recently, Liam Rosenior has been added to the list for the 2025/26 season, continuing the trend.
Across 10 seasons, the sequence of managers reads:
- Guus Hiddink — 2015/16
- Antonio Conte — 2016/17, 2017/18
- Maurizio Sarri — 2018/19
- Frank Lampard — 2019/20, 2020/21 (part)
- Thomas Tuchel — 2020/21 (from Jan), 2021/22, 2022/23 (part)
- Graham Potter — 2022/23
- Frank Lampard (second spell) — 2022/23 (interim)
- Mauricio Pochettino — 2023/24
- Enzo Maresca — 2024/25
- Liam Rosenior — 2025/26
While the frequent changes have brought moments of success, including domestic and European honours, they have also raised persistent questions about continuity and long-term planning at Stamford Bridge.
