Fruitfulness is God’s command, by Funmi Komolade

Beloved, last Sunday was Mother’s Day.  Indeed mother’s day is marked more than once a year. We are still going to have another one by some Christians.

One of the reasons God created man and woman is to bear children among other things.

God commanded in Genesis 1 vs. 27 & 28(KJV): So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”.

From the moment God gave this command, he transferred to man and woman the role they are to play in populating the world.

Have you ever asked yourself, why God chose to do this, when he could continue to create human beings all by himself..

It could be assumed that God wanted it this way because he wanted to encourage intimacy between the man and the woman and to enable human beings appreciate God more.

The Lord’s command can be attributed to God’s love for humanity.  

God wanted to have human beings that would take care of the work of creation and serve him.

So, we can safely say, God created every woman to bear children.  Otherwise, he would not have placed in the woman, ovaries that produce eggs or in man the spermatozoa that can fertilize the eggs to produce children.

However, in the journey of life, both man and woman may be confronted with challenges that could delay child bearing in a couple.

You may ask, why did God close the womb of Sarah and Hannah, did they commit sin? The Bible has no record of their sins.  So we can  safely say these two women that became mothers after a long delay were used as testimonies to make us believe that “ with God all things are possible”.

Beloved, God is aware of all challenges that confront you.  He knows the source and has the solution.

The story of Samson’s parents lends credence to this.

Judges 13 vs. 2& 3 ( KJV), And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah, and his wife was barren, and bare not.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou are barren, and barest not but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son”.

The appearance   of the angel was God’s answer to the prayer of Manoah and his wife.

God promised them a son but the promise was with a condition.

Verse 4 completes the story: “ Now therefore beware,  I pray thee, drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing”.

She obeyed the angel by staying off strong drink and abstained from eating unclean things.

How do we know?

God confirmed his word in verse 24 of the same chapter.

“ And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him”.

The story confirms that God knows what everyone is passing through.

God gave his word that we must be productive in child bearing in Exodus 23 vs. 26: “ There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill”.

Here God not only promised child bearing, He spoke against miscarriage.

“ The number of thy days I will fulfill”, simply means you would carry the baby to term.

Brethren, it is not only in child bearing that God wants us to multiply.  He wants us to multiply in our finances and businesses too. He wants us to multiply in preaching the gospel.

The key to fruitfulness in any area of life is to hold on to Jesus in prayer and patiently wait for the answers to your prayer.

Let’s lift our spirit with the story of a woman who gave birth to set of twin boys at the age of 52.

Medically speaking, she has gone beyond the age of child bearing but with God no one is forgotten.

Narrating part of experience while waiting to have a child, she wrote:

“ I watched my younger sisters marry, carry their babies, and even bring those children to my house to eat my food.

My husband’s people started whispering behind my back. They told him to find a “fertile woman’   because at age 50, I was “useless” and my womb was a “ dry well”.

She continued, “ After nearly two decades of marriage, the silence in our home was heavier than a mountain. Every month, I would cry behind the kitchen door until my wrapper was soaked, wondering if God had forgotten my address”.

The woman said like Sarah, she advised her husband to go and marry another woman but he refused saying to her, “ let us wait for God’s time”.

Thank God for husbands that put their trust in the Lord.

Concluding, she wrote: “ At age 51, when the world said it was medically impossible and the neighbours had finished laughing, I conceived, And at the age of 52, the “ Empty House” finally became a home.   I gave birth to a beautiful set of Twin Kings!

The new mother of twins has a word for women   on the waiting queue of the Lord.

She wrote”  “ I am sharing this because I know someone reading this feels like her time has passed.   You feel like the world is mocking your delay.  I am your living proof.  If God can remember me at 52 and give me double for my trouble, He will turn your “ Nothing ‘ into Mega Celebration”.

She proudly displayed her picture with her twins and her husband.

Beloved, may be people are saying it is too late for you.   Remain confident in the Lord and when you least expect, the Lord will turn your tears of sorrow to tears of unspeakable joy.

Mockers can be very provocative but anyone that is focused on the Lord would not pay attention to them.

Couples waiting on the LORD must not allow distractions to come between them.

 They should also not allow   challenges to weigh them down.

When a partner is low is spirit and this must happen because we are made of flesh, the other partner must lift the spirit of his or her spouse with testimonies such as this.

Beloved, our father in the Lord, Daddy Enoch Adeboye once said, “ Special children come from closed wombs”.

The birth of Isaac, Joseph, John the Baptist and  Samson to mention a few confirm  his statement.

As you work towards treading on all challenges this month, God will fill your mouth with laughter in Jesus name.

Fear not, the season of laughter is here.
