FRSC boss cracks down on extortion, senseless enforcement

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has warned personnel against extortion, harassment of motorists, and reckless enforcement of traffic laws.

Represented at the event by Corps Commander Paul Ogoegbunam, the Corps Marshal expressed concern over declining professionalism and supervision among some field operatives, noting increasing complaints from the public about misconduct.

“Over the past months, we have observed a disturbing decline in discipline and effective command. These lapses have manifested as misconduct, unethical practices, abuse of authority, extortion, and reckless enforcement that contradict everything our uniform represents,” Mohammed said.

He stressed that the FRSC is a life-saving institution, not a revenue-generating agency, and warned that erring personnel would face strict disciplinary action.

“Extortion, harassment, and abuse of authority are illegal and betray the oath sworn by our officers,” he added, directing senior officers to intensify supervision and uphold professionalism and discipline.

The Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, said the visit demonstrated the FRSC leadership’s commitment to strengthening operational efficiency, providing guidance, and aligning field personnel with the strategic vision of the Corps Marshal.

She urged officers to take the lessons from the sensitisation exercise seriously, reaffirming the command’s dedication to the FRSC’s mandate of ensuring safer roads across the state.
