Find your space, contribute to nation building, Olukoya urges Women

LAGOS, Nigeria — Dr. Folashade Olukoya, wife of the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has charged Nigerian women to deliberately discover their divinely appointed roles and actively contribute to rebuilding a nation she described as decaying.

She gave the charge while speaking at the second edition of the Ladies on the Organ, Her Hymn, Her Organ musical concert, held at the MFM International Headquarters, Lagos. The event was organised by the Association of Nigerian Female Organists (ANFO).

In a thought-provoking address that reinterpreted biblical narratives and challenged popular expressions, Dr. Olukoya dismissed the portrayal of women as “weaker vessels” as a misconception, stressing that the term signifies humility rather than inferiority or lack of capacity.

“We did not accept the word ‘women empowerment’,” she said. “What are we to empower? We already have the power to help. We have the power of reclaiming and recovering our womanhood and doing what God wants us to do.”

She urged women to rise decisively, begin from where they are, and deploy their God-given gifts—whether in teaching, prophecy, administration or music—to make meaningful impact.

“You have to find your space and understand why you are made, and grab it because there is no time. Many things are decaying and the Lord is counting on us. You are the Eve of this generation now; arise to the task,” she declared.

The concert itself reflected this call, as female organists from various Christian denominations took full control of the organ console, skillfully coordinating hands and feet to produce rich harmonies—demonstrating excellence in an area traditionally dominated by men.

Commending the performers, Dr. Olukoya described the organ as their workspace and safe space. “You are using your chosen instrument as your voice. As you put your fingers on the keyboard, that is your heart speaking and your passion,” she said, adding that the initiative was about intentional inclusion rather than competition or showmanship.

The patron of ANFO and General Overseer of MFM, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, explained that the association was established to dismantle long-standing gender barriers in music ministry.

“Some musical instruments have been dominated by men for a long time. You rarely find women in the organ room; it is often elderly men, and that pattern has to be broken,” he said. “By the grace of God, MFM decided to start this association to show that what a man can do, a woman can do.”

ANFO coordinators, Sister Abiodun George and her assistant, AlapaKristi Precious Omosalewa, outlined the group’s mission to develop, mentor and elevate Nigerian female organists through structured training and educational opportunities.

“Our drive is to be the best and let the world know that organ playing is for both male and female,” Omosalewa said. “A woman playing the organ, often described as the king of all instruments, makes her nothing less than a king. Mastery has no gender—only skill and passion.”

Concluding her remarks, Dr. Folashade Olukoya urged participants to maintain spiritual focus in all pursuits. “Whatever we do, let us do it heartily as unto the Lord and not unto men. Anything done for the flesh or human glory is in vain,” she said.

The concert went beyond musical performance, emerging as a strategic platform advocating women’s intentional participation in faith, culture and national development.
