FG team inspects Kwale hospital for upgrade

A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health, has inspected the Central Hospital, Kwale, Delta State, as part of steps toward converting the facility into a teaching hospital for the Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences, Kwale.

The delegation, led by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Abisola Adegoke, conducted the visit to assess the hospital’s facilities, equipment and manpower before submitting recommendations to the Federal Government.On arrival in the state, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme.

Speaking during the visit, Adegoke commended the Delta State Government for its cooperation in efforts aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery.

According to her, the inspection would guide further administrative steps, including possible agreements and arrangements for the proposed conversion of the hospital into a teaching facility.
Members of the delegation included the Director of Teaching Hospitals, Dr. Okpikpi Okpako; Dr. Ahmed Saidu, Director/STA, CMHSW; Dr. Okara Dogara, STA, PSH; Dr. Paul Kwetishe, HCU/DHS; and Dr. Olufemi Adebayo, Head of Secretariat.
The visit was facilitated by a former member of the House of Representatives for Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Ossai Ossai, alongside the Chairman of the Technical Committee for the hospital’s transition, Dr. Ernest Ogbodo.
Welcoming the delegation, Onyeme appreciated the Federal Ministry of Health for the visit and reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to improve healthcare services and medical education.
“As an indigene of this area, I am pleased about the presence of the university here. We remain committed to supporting efforts that will strengthen its operations and enhance healthcare services in the community,” Onyeme said.
At the Central Hospital, Kwale, Ogbodo introduced the delegation to the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Patrick Ofili, who conducted the team round various departments and facilities of the hospital.
The delegation also visited the palace of the Oduosa of Utagba-Ogbe, Nze Isaac Obi, where community leaders reiterated their support for the proposed teaching hospital.
Adegoke thanked the monarch and the community for their support, noting that teaching hospitals play a vital role in training medical professionals and improving healthcare delivery.
“Our task is to review the hospital’s facilities, equipment and personnel and make recommendations that will guide further decisions,” she said.
The delegation also visited the temporary site of the university, where the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Nekwu Okolugbo, received them on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Onunu.
During the visit, Ossai disclosed that the Umusam community had provided two hostels to support the university’s operations and pledged continued support for the institution’s growth.
