ABUJA: Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Senator George Akume, has urged Secretaries to State Governments SSGs, across the country to adopt digital tools as part of efforts to improve governance, accountability and service delivery.

Speaking at the opening of the first 2025 meeting of the Forum of the SGF and SSGs in Jos, Akume described their offices as the “engine rooms” of government, stressing that the integration of technology into administration is no longer optional but critical to efficiency and timely decision-making.

“The complexity of governance today demands that we embrace digital tools for tracking, analysis, and communication,” his Media aide, Yomi Odunuga said in a statement.

“Citizens are now more enlightened, connected, and more demanding. Our policies must therefore reflect transparency, responsiveness, and inclusivity”, he added.

The SGF emphasized that SSGs occupy a strategic position as coordinators of government activities, adding that their effectiveness directly influences policy execution, security coordination and national development.

He called on them to embrace continuous learning, strengthen institutional capacity, and foster teamwork in line with global best practices.

According to him, the forum provides a vital platform to harmonise policy implementation strategies between the federal and state governments, while promoting sub-national alignment with national development plans.

“In the face of the current security challenges bedeviling our country, as Secretaries to Governments, we must be proactive in supporting security coordination and constantly upgrade our leadership skills,” he added.

Akume noted that governance in Nigeria is interconnected, with policies and programmes formulated at the federal level cascading down to the states for implementation.

He therefore urged participants to maximise the forum to deepen collaboration, ensure policy continuity, and strengthen integration in public administration.
