Defamation: Oyo Assembly indicts APC lawmaker, rejects apology

The Oyo State House of Assembly has indicted one of its lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Shittu.

The indictment was announced during the plenary of the House on Tuesday.

DAILY POST gathered that Shittu, who represents the Saki West State Constituency, has been having a running battle in the House.

He is one of the lawmakers in the minority caucus at the Assembly.

He was recently accused of defamation against the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin.

Our correspondent reports that the matter was handed over to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

The committee set up to investigate the matter revealed that it had indicted the lawmaker.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, said both lawmakers appeared before the committee on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

He added that the committee indicted Shittu because his actions contravened the principles of the House.

DAILY POST reports that the House, during the plenary, also rejected the apology tendered by Shittu.

The matter was later referred back to the committee for further action.
