Davido’s aide Israel DMW to bury father in July
Davido’s logistics manager, Israel Afeara, widely known as Israel DMW, has announced the funeral arrangements for his late father, Eric Afeare.
Mr Afeare, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, died on March 2 at the age of 71 following a brief illness. He reportedly passed away at a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the burial programme released by the family, most of the ceremonies will take place at Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu-Ake, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, while the reception will be held in Benin City.
The funeral activities will begin on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when the remains of the deceased will be moved from Igue Mortuary to his residence for an overnight social wake.
A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 10, after which the late Afeare Eric will be laid to rest at his compound in Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu-Ake, Owan East Local Government Area. The interment is slated for 10 a.m.
The programme will continue on Saturday, July 11, with an afternoon wake at the family residence beginning at 2 p.m.
A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, July 12, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ake, starting at 10 a.m.
The final event in the funeral programme will take place on July 19 with a reception at Crown Heart Pavilion, Country Road, Benin City, from noon.
Reflecting on the loss, Israel DMW described his father as a source of strength and a unifying figure within the family.
He said, “It is sad losing my father at this time. We still need him with us, but God knows better.
“He was my pillar of strength, and he was instrumental in making the family an indivisible unit.”
The late retired police officer is survived by two wives and eight children.
