Court adjourns El-Rufai’s bail hearing to March 31

A Federal High Court in Kaduna State has adjourned the bail application of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to March 31, 2026.

The adjournment followed Tuesday’s hearing, during which both the prosecution and defense presented legal arguments. Counsel to El-Rufai, Ukpon Akpan, urged the court to grant bail, citing the former governor’s constitutional rights and the need to prepare his defense.

The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the charges against El-Rufai are serious and that granting bail could hinder ongoing investigations.

El-Rufai was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alongside Joel Adoga over alleged corruption and abuse of office, including financial misconduct during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.

Ahead of the arraignment, security was heightened in Kaduna, with armed personnel stationed at key court entry points as supporters and onlookers gathered outside.

Journalists were barred from entering the courtroom to witness the proceedings.
