Chelsea FC set for historic Lagos visit in May [How to attend]
Chelsea FC have announced plans to visit Lagos for the first time in May as part of a fan engagement initiative.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Premier League club confirmed that Victor Moses, a former Super Eagles winger and ex-Chelsea player, will also be present for the event.
The visit is scheduled as a “fan engagement programme,” aimed at connecting with supporters in Nigeria. According to the club, the event—tagged “The Famous CFC in Lagos”—will feature a lively weekend of activities, including a watch party, interactive sessions, and a Q&A with Moses. Fans will also have opportunities to win signed merchandise.
“The Famous CFC in Lagos will bring a packed weekend of action to the city, where fans will be welcomed to the ever-popular watch party along with exclusive activities including a Q&A with Moses. There will also be the chance to win signed merchandise,” the statement reads.
“The visit to Nigeria is the fifth stop this season for the international fan programme, which looks to deepen connections with Blues supporters around the world. Extended this season with more host cities to ensure even more fans can come together at exclusive events, the party in Lagos will bring the Chelsea family together as the season comes to a climax.”
Moses, who retired from international football in 2018, enjoyed a successful career with Nigeria, winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and featuring in the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.
Top English clubs and football legends have previously visited Nigeria. In 2008, Manchester United and Portsmouth FC played a friendly match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. In 2017, Thierry Henry, a legend of Arsenal FC, visited Lagos and was crowned the “Igwe of football,” while Rio Ferdinand, former Manchester United defender, also visited the city in 2018.
The English Premier League trophy has equally been showcased in Nigeria on several occasions.
