By-election: Police restrict movement in four LGs in kano

Kano State Police Command has imposed a movement restriction in four local government areas, which will take effect from 12 midnight Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, listed the affected local governments as Bagwai, Shanono, Ghari, and Tsanyawa.
“Movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles is strictly restricted from 12 midnight of Friday the 15th to 6 pm of Saturday the 16th, August 2025.
“Being the election day proper, exceptions will only be granted to vehicles on essential services, such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and vehicles of electoral officers and accredited election observers,” he said.
He stated that under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Bakori, the Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had implemented all necessary measures to guarantee a peaceful, free, fair, transparent, and successful re-run election in Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency and a by-election in Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency.
“To maintain law and order during the elections, the command wishes to inform visitors and residents of the affected Local Government Areas Ghari, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, and Shanono of guidelines and restrictions,” Haruna said.
He noted that during the by-election, only eligible voters would be allowed at polling units, and that only agents duly accredited by INEC would be granted access.
“The carrying of weapons of any kind is strictly prohibited. Individuals wearing clothing or carrying items with political party logos or identities will not be allowed at polling units, while loitering in or around polling units will not be tolerated,” he said.
The statement further noted that state security outfits, including vigilante groups and KAROTA personnel, would not be permitted at polling units.
The command assured the public of its commitment to ensuring adequate security and maintaining peace during the electoral process, while as well urging residents of the affected LGAs and visitors to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies for a smooth exercise.
