Boko Haram degraded, now weakened – FG

The Federal Government has declared that the Boko Haram terrorists have now been “significantly degraded and reduced to a weakened force”, assuring Nigerians that the country’s security situation is improving.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja when he received members of the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organisation RHFCO, a grassroots Fulani mobilisation platform, at his office.

Spokesman of the SGF, Yomi Odunuga, in a statement, said sustained military operations, combined with non-kinetic measures, have diminished the capacity of terrorist elements, adding that their attacks have become sporadic and ineffective.

While noting that security improvements were already visible, the SGF said the Federal Government was pressing further by strengthening the nation’s defence architecture through the acquisition of more arms and ammunition alongside improved operational strategies by security agencies.

He expressed confidence that the country’s current security challenges would not last. “The problems we are having are temporary problems that will certainly go away. Things are already beginning to pick up,” Akume said.

On the political front, the visiting RHFCO used the occasion to declare full support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election, pledging to mobilise Fulani pastoralist communities across Nigeria to deliver votes for the administration.

Led by its National Coordinator, Hon. Abdullahi Ahmad Tibbo, the group said it would galvanise its base at the grassroots level nationwide.

“We hereby declare that the Fulbe are fully behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term. We will galvanise our people to deliver massive support at the polls,” Tibbo stated.

Tibbo cited several policy initiatives as reasons for the Fulbe community’s alignment with the administration, including the Student Loan Scheme, the super highway project, local government autonomy, economic stabilisation measures, and, most significantly, the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock — a development he said Fulbe communities had sought for generations.

The group also appealed for formal recognition as a strategic mobilisation partner and requested logistical support — including vehicles and motorcycles — to enhance its outreach across remote pastoral settlements.
