Blessing CEO doctored my report — cancer survivor; NMA confirms allegation

Deborah Mbara, the woman at the centre of the controversy involving social media influencer Blessing CEO, has said that her cancer medical report was altered and used without her permission, describing the experience as traumatic.

Mbara, a makeup artist and cancer survivor, spoke out in a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, following a statement by the Nigerian Medical Association (Delta State chapter) that the medical document circulated by Blessing CEO was a manipulated version originally issued to another patient.

According to the association, the report presented by the influencer to support her claim of having stage 4 breast cancer did not belong to her but had been altered. The document was reportedly traced back to Xinus Medical Diagnostics, which also denied issuing such a report to Blessing CEO and stated that the original result was issued to Mbara in May 2025.

“Xinus Medical Diagnostics is located in Asaba, Delta State and did not at any time issue any report to Blessing Okoro,” a statement signed by Delta NMA chairman, Israel Adaigho, and secretary, Usamah Hannah, read.

The association said the facility’s proprietor, O.A. Odigwe, a consultant pathologist and NMA member, contacted the branch to clarify the matter after the report went viral.

It said Xinus was contacted in May 2025 by a doctor from a private hospital in Asaba to conduct a confirmatory test on a possible breast cancer case for his patient.

“The test was done and the result issued to the referring doctor as a case of breast cancer on the 9th of May, 2025,” the statement said.

According to the NMA, the original result, issued to Mbara through her referring hospital, was separately made available online by law firm Allen Juris Law, bearing the patient’s actual name.

“A copy of that result is the one being circulated online by the law firm, with the name Mbara Deborah as the patient,” the statement said. “The result online from the law firm is the original version issued to the patient through her hospital.”

The association said the clarification had become necessary “in view of what the altered report being paraded by Blessing Okoro is now being used for,” adding that members of the public “should therefore be guided accordingly.”

“The integrity of our association and its members is very paramount and should not therefore be taken for granted.

“We call on the authorities responsible for maintaining law and order to do the needful and save the unsuspecting members of the public from being taken undue advantage of,” it stated.

Recounting how the situation unfolded, Mbara said Blessing CEO had initially reached out to her under the pretext of comparing medical results.

“Sometime last year, Blessing CEO was in Asaba, and I was her makeup artist,” she said.

“Fast forward to last week, when she started crying that she had cancer and had sold off her properties. My friend reached out to her to check up on her. We even got a doctor on the call to help us educate her and encourage her. I was telling her how God saw me through my own journey and the scars.

“Then she said, ‘Zazi, can you please help me send the report of when you were diagnosed so I could compare it with the one my doctor gave me?’ And I said, ‘OK, no problem.’ Only for me to see it on the internet on Friday that it was my result she doctored to back up the nonsense and the money people were donating to her.”

Mbara further alleged that despite public claims by the influencer that they had no prior relationship, Blessing CEO later visited her family to apologise.

“She said she doesn’t know me and has never spoken to any of my family,” Mbara said.

“But she was in Asaba on Monday to beg my husband and my family. My husband told her to tender a public apology on social media and confess how everything happened.”

Expressing her disappointment, she added, “I thought I was helping someone in need, not knowing she had a different agenda. This is evil”.

“I was traumatised by her action,” she said.

The controversy began in January when Blessing CEO announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and later shared a medical report while soliciting financial support from the public.

Blessing CEO recently claimed she had raised N13 million from donations.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that no formal petition has been filed against the influencer despite the public backlash surrounding the incident.
