‘Barbaric’ — Speaker Abbas on Borno mosque attack

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has described as barbaric the Christmas Eve mosque attack in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The incident which happened during prayers, left several worshippers dead and others injured.
The Speaker, in a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, stated that the attack represents the height of wickedness and a direct assault on the soul of the nation.
The lawmaker hailed security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property, expressing confidence that the security situation would continue to improve with the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to combat criminality.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the government, the people of Borno State, and all Nigerians,” the statement added.
According to the Speaker, those behind the attack would not succeed in their aims, noting that they will never prevail in their bid to divide the country or derail the march towards a secure and prosperous nation.
He prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased, quick recovery for the injured, and strength for the bereaved families.
